Last Tuesday saw the return of the Urban Roller Skating Dance Competition by RollandBoogie and for the second year running, I was invited to join the judging panel. An invitation I'm always delighted and honoured to receive!
This year brought a new addition: an Under 18s category, which was great to see. With competitors ranging from just 8 years old right through to the 40 plusers, there was something for everyone.
And what a showcase of talent! From dazzling footwork and big, expressive dance sequences to splits, edge slides and everything in
between, the standard and variety kept us entertained throughout.
Winners included; Arabella who showcased an amazing range of skating skills [and came dressed to impress] won the U18's category. The over 18's was won by Johnny aka Sunskater who
delivered a flawless action performance - packed with big moves, slick transitions, amazing floor coverage and wonderful creativity. Two
runners also came with some fresh skating flows of their own - each leaving with a bag of prizes and a £250 cash prize.
As always, the event was supported by a fantastic selection of merchants [including myself], selling everything from handmade luxury (and oh-so-delicious!) cakes to sporting and skating apparel.
A live DJ played each competitor's pre-selected track before treating us to a brilliant set for the open skate session. It was lovely to get out on the floor, share our skills, find our creative flow, catch up with friends and reconnect with a few faces who'd been off my radar for a while.
This year, Raz also invited Michael and me to showcase some ballroom skating, following our win at London's first-ever Ballroom Skating Competition earlier this year. How could we refuse?!
I'll admit, taking to the floor under the bright lights was a little nerve-wracking, but mostly great fun. We performed our slow ballroom sequences and were thrilled with how warmly they were received.

There were plenty of other treats too, including a spoken-word performance from Kat Francois and a wonderfully slow, sexy dance from Raz and her fellow Totcats, looking every bit the feline!
All in all, another brilliant night, expertly pulled together by Raz and her Roll'n Boogie team.
Thank you for having me back on the judging panel. It's always a privilege to be part of an event that celebrates such a diverse mix of skating talent, ages and styles.
And needless to say, I'm already looking forward to next year's performance!
